Presenting our “Field Trips” Guide: Celebrating curiosity and adventure at the heart of every explorer!
[dropcap]F[/dropcap]ield trips were always an exciting time in school. A break from the classroom as the school bus carried us to a great adventure waiting to be found in our neck of the woods … piney woods that is!
East Texas is full of rich history, learning experiences, and hands on education. Here at East Texas Moms Blog, we are proud of our community and gladly share some of our favorite field trips for the all the adventurers both young and young at heart!
Escapology is new to our area and full of entertainment and teamwork as you learn to work together to escape a themed room. Next door to Escapology is Urban Air: a room filled with so much excitement and energy, you just may need to take a rest at the concession stand as your kiddos bounce, climb, and crawl their wiggles out. Of course, adult kids are always welcome to release their inner child. Who can resist?
The piney woods of our community and surrounding areas offer many nature and wildlife parks. Some of our state parks even offer classes or guided hikes teaching about nature, bird watching, orienteering and other topics. Numerous city and county parks, nature preserves and gardens also welcome us to the great outdoors. Caldwell Zoo, Cherokee Trace, Mineola Nature Preserve, Shreveport Aquarium, and Tiger Creek, are just a few spots to catch a glimpse of nature as well as native and exotic animals at play.
East Texas is home to several colleges and universities offering museums that provide learning opportunities for children of all ages. Tyler Junior College’s dome theater, the Center for Earth and Space Science, present educational movies as the sky takes flight above your head. Kilgore College is home to the East Texas Oil Museum where you can take your family on a walk through Boomtown, USA, a full scale town straight out of the 1930’s.
When my son was in cub scouts, we were pleasantly surprised by the train rides and museums offered in this area. There are steam locomotive trains operating in Jefferson, Palestine and Rusk with different scenic and historic learning opportunities.
As a kid, and still to this day, I enjoy historic villages and towns that give us a peek into the past. Villages like Millard’s Crossing in Nacogdoches and the Edgewood Heritage Park are interactive … bringing history alive!
Some of these field trips, like the train rides, are more costly while some are absolutely free! Also, follow these spots on social media to catch discounts online.
