Your Freshman Year: An Open Letter to My Daughter | East Texas Moms Blog

Dear Daughter,

It’s surreal.

We sat in the car on your first day of Volleyball, just a few short weeks ago and you told me not to cry because you would too. You said, “Mom, stop looking at the school so you won’t cry!”. See this was the same school I experienced High school in. I walked some of the same halls that you will and that is strange and exciting all at the same time. I feel like I know what’s coming, but then again, maybe I don’t.

It’s the start of a brand new chapter. One that I truly thought was oh so far away. But now it’s here.

High School.

We’ve been told the next 4 years will fly by. They may, but your dad and I are going to make sure you know we are right there with you as you navigate this launching pad into adulthood.

I promise we will try to let you grow wings of your own. To have your own experiences outside of the ones we had 20+ years ago. We believe you are going to soar. You have a personality that fills the whole room and we know it will take you places if you’ll embrace it and let it.

But daughter, can we ask a few things of you?

Will you talk to us? We want to know the good and the not so good. We love watching you experience life in your own unique way. We just ask that you include us.

Will you remember that you are enough just as you are? We tell you often that you are unique and on purpose for a purpose and that there is no one else out there like you…that is a gift in and of itself. Please don’t forget it.

Will you work hard for the things you are passionate about? We will be here to guide you and help you as much as we can, but remember that you have to want it for you. We can’t do that for you! You have gifts…use them!

And please daughter, when life gets tough, remember your truth. Because it will get hard at times, but that’s normal, that’s expected. You have all the tools to make it in this crazy world. And don’t you forget that you have an army of folks who love you fiercely and want the best for you!

You’ve got this. We’ve got this. Go ROCK OUT these next 4 years with no regrets, make memories to last a lifetime.

We love you and pray for you daily!

Mom

She has been married to Stephen for 17 years and they have two beautifully unique daughters, Keatyn (13) and Addilyn (10). Beth spends her free time (but really what is that) running, consuming decent amounts of wine and coffee with her friends and enjoying local food. She's a teacher turned entrepreneur. For many years she has run her own businesses from home, which has allowed her to learn so much about who she is, what her strengths are and ultimately lead her to here. She's passionate about her community and being a wife and mom. Though she loves her small town, she often dreams of more sidewalks for riding her bicycle with a basket.
